Alvenia ScarboroughSenior Vice President, Corporate Communications and Chief Brand Officer
Alvenia leads the company's communications strategy, with a focus on advancing the company's corporate narrative, advancing growth priorities, and elevating the company's Corporate Responsibility Commitments. She will also lead Chemours' philanthropy and community relations work as the company deepens its relationships with community partners.
Committed to showcasing how Chemours is truly a different kind of chemistry company, Alvenia leads communications strategy with a focus on powerful storytelling and branded content that enhances corporate reputation, progresses growth priorities, and elevates the company's Corporate Responsibility Commitments.
Alvenia joined Chemours in July 2015 as the director of corporate communications and brand marketing, responsible for all internal and external branded communications, and the development and management of the Chemours corporate brand and its seven major product brands. In that role Alvenia managed the company’s overall communications strategy designed to build and protect Chemours’ reputation, create brand recognition and equity, and enable business sales growth.
Prior to joining Chemours, Alvenia was the global communications leader for both the Fluoroproducts and Chemical Solutions businesses and went on to lead corporate brand management and licensing for DuPont, where she oversaw marketing communications programs around the globe. Redefining the mission of the brand management office, Alvenia focused her efforts on improving the impact of branded content in support of corporate and customer-focused business unit objectives. In her time, she uncovered profitable and strategic licensing opportunities for the DuPont brand portfolio, enabling more than $5 million in licensing opportunities for the company in just 12 months, and launched a highly successful brand campaign, Dare Bigger, helping to re-establish the Kevlar® brand in the market and creating a company-first partnership with the X-Games®.
Before joining DuPont, Alvenia was the global director of brand marketing for office technologies with Newell Rubbermaid. In this role, Alvenia was responsible for leading advertising, public relations and digital marketing. While there she shifted communications to a digital-led model, re-launched one of the largest brands in the global label-printing market, and effectively consolidated 4 businesses under one master brand identity—unifying a disparate portfolio or products into a single, more cohesive and profitable offering.
Prior to her tenure with Newell Rubbermaid, Alvenia (fluent in Spanish) served as the director of marketing communications for Kodak Latin America, senior brand manager of consumer digital products for Kodak Americas, and a variety of other brand management and marketing roles. While at Kodak, Alvenia had P&L responsibility and launched the company’s first 360O branded content, digital marketing program. That program solidified the company’s #1 global share position in the digital printing category.
Alvenia has also had brand marketing roles and responsibilities at United Parcel Service and Coca-Cola. She holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the University of Virginia.
A native of Richmond, Virginia, Alvenia enjoys homecooked, southern meals and warm weather. In her free time, Alvenia can be found taking outdoor walks, spinning on her Peloton bike, or travelling with her husband Calvin, daughter Heyli, and dog Biggie.
